Pakistan taxes salaried income on a progressive slab system: the first Rs 6,00,000 you earn in a year is tax-free, and each band of income above that is taxed at a higher rate than the one below it. Because only the income within each band is taxed at that band's rate, your effective rate, the share of your whole salary that goes to tax, is always lower than the marginal rate on your top rupee.
For FY 2025-26 the salaried slabs run from 0% (up to Rs 6,00,000) through 1%, 11%, 23% and 30%, to a top rate of 35% on annual income above Rs 41,00,000. A separate 9% surcharge applies on the computed tax once annual taxable income crosses Rs 1,00,00,000. The table below applies these rates to gross salary with no deductions, so your real liability can be lower once exempt medical allowance, approved pension contributions and Zakat are accounted for.
